Genome Sciences Course Schedule
Undergraduate Course Information:
Please direct any inquiries regarding courses to Brian Giebel (bgiebel [ a t ] u.washington.edu).
The UW doesn't offer an undergraduate degree in Genome Sciences. However, the Department of Genome Sciences offers several undergraduate courses each quarter. These are generally taken by undergraduate Biology and Biochemistry majors.
Regarding Genome 371:
Genome 371 has been replaced by Genome 361 during Winter, Spring, and Summer quarters each year. Genome 361 fulfills the same course prerequisites and degree requirements for Biology and Biochemistry majors. Genome 371 will continue to be offered during Autumn Quarter.
Please be aware that course prerequisites for Genome 371 / 361 (Biology 180 / 200) must show up in the UW system before you will be allowed to register for this course. If you have taken the equivalent courses at a local community college or elsewhere, please have your transcript sent to UW admissions so that it may be evaluated and added to your record.
The following courses will not be offered during the 2011-2012 academic year:
Genome 261 (Genomes and Society)
Genome 531 (Genetics of Human Disease)
Course Schedules:
Please follow this link to view the department course schedule.
Independent study courses (Genome 499, 501, 600, 700 & 800) are offered every quarter.
Genome Sciences Seminar (Genome 520), COMBI Seminar (Genome 521), Journal Club (Genome 522), Research Reports (Genome 523), and Medical Genetics Journal Club (Genome 525) are offered every Autumn, Winter, and Spring Quarter
Graduate Course Information:
Please see the graduate program section for information about the Genome Sciences Ph.D. program.
Information for nonmatriculated students:
Enrolling in undergraduate courses as a nonmatriculated student:
Students who are not regularly enrolled UW students but wish to take undergraduate courses have the option of enrolling as nonmatriculated students. Enrollment of this sort is done via UW Educational Outreach.
UW Educational Outreach will ask that you obtain instructor permission. You are welcome to check with the instructors before classes begin, but please be aware that it may be very difficult to enroll in high demand courses such as Genome 361 or 371. For these sorts of courses, you will be asked to first attend the first week of class to see if space becomes available. Regular UW students will have priority. Course instructors will sign your form if space opens up after the first week, in both the instructor and department lines.
Enrolling in graduate courses as a nonmatriculated student is outlined on the graduate program section of this site.
