First Year Feedback:

The faculty will meet during Spring Quarter to evaluate student progress. If they have any concerns about your coursework or lab rotations, you will be contacted with suggestions on how to resolve these problems.

Insufficient Academic Progress:

First year students who have significant difficulty reaching faculty expectations in coursework or lab rotations may be put on academic probation. This involves notifying the UW Graduate School with documentation of the circumstances. It does not normally affect your funding or registration. The goal is to come up with solutions to solve any problems.

If problems continue past this point, you may be put on final probation. This happens very infrequently. Students are normally on final probation for one quarter only. After that point, the department will either recommend that you be removed from academic probation or that you leave the program.

The UW Graduate School's guidelines are posted here.
