RECRUITMENT & MENTORSHIP

The Department of Genome Sciences is committed to fostering a diverse community of scholars that is encouraging and welcoming to all students. This is reflected in efforts to recruit and retain a diverse faculty, staff and student body.

Summer REU
The Genome Sciences NSF REU program hosts 10-12 students annually and provides individuals with the opportunity to engage in great science, network with our community, gain valuable mentors, and obtain preparation for graduate and professional studies.

Conferences we recruit at:

SACNAS
ABRCMS
NIH

Partnerships:
While our summer program welcomes students from around the country, we also have partnerships with Heritage University, Fort Lewis College (Durango, CO), and Bellevue College to provide summer research opportunities.

Hiring Undergraduates
Faculty are encouraged to hire work study undergrads and may also find the UW Diversity Hiring Toolkit helpful.
