Research Reports

Presentations are held on Fridays from 3:00 – 4:20 in Foege Auditorium (S 060) unless otherwise noted (talks will begin at 3:00 starting Spring Quarter 2026). There is a remote viewing option for those who prefer not to attend presentations in person. Session recordings are available on the past Research Reports page.

Our program will include reports on research progress and proposed work by graduate students.  Participation is expected for Genome Sciences students and for students from other programs in core GS faculty labs in years 1 through 5. The only exception is for fifth-year students who are likely to graduate within the next year.  Talks are planned for 25 minutes each.  If you are unable to speak at the appointed time, please arrange to change dates with someone else.  Please email Brian Giebel (bgiebel [ a t ] uw.edu) with any changes. All talks (except for rotation talks) should be no longer than 25 minutes, including time for questions.

We will be using a mandatory moderator system. Each presenting student’s PI should introduce them and serve as a moderator, if necessary interrupting any inappropriate questions. Students and moderators should communicate before the presentation about any additional support the student may need. For rotation talks, the rotation PIs should decide which of them will serve as the moderator.

After your research report, there will be a feedback session on presentation style that is open to faculty only. You can choose to be in the room to receive this feedback directly or instead ask a faculty member of your choice to serve as a note taker and relay comments to you afterward. If you would like to have a note-taker, please approach someone at this time and coordinate with them to make sure they are able to attend your research report.
