Student Progress
Insufficient Academic Progress:
Students who have significant difficulty reaching faculty expectations in coursework or lab rotations may be put on academic alert. This involves notifying the UW Graduate School with documentation of the circumstances. It does not normally affect your funding or registration. The goal is to come up with solutions to solve any problems.
If problems continue past this point, you may be put on final alert. This happens very infrequently. Students are normally on final alert for one quarter only. After that point, the department will either recommend that you be removed from academic alert or that you leave the program.
The UW Graduate School's guidelines are posted here.
