Manoil Lab

The Manoil group studies the virulence and antibiotic resistance traits of several bacterial pathogens: Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Acinetobacter baumannii, Burkholderia pseudomallei and Klebsiella pneumoniae. These pathogens cause a variety of infections that are challenging to treat because of intrinsic antibiotic resistance of the bacteria.

The laboratory employs genome-scale genetic approaches to study the bacteria. The lab has created ordered, sequence-defined transposon libraries for all of the species, and has carried out large-scale studies to identify and characterize genes required for their virulence and antibiotic resistance.
