Course Mechanics

Grading and Regrades:

The components of the final grade are as follows:

Exams: 75% (three exams)

Quiz and Lab writeups: 25%

There will be four exams. The three exams with the highest grades will be used in computing the final grade. The final grade will be based on a curve of total points (minus the dropped exam score), with the top ~4-6 total scores assigned a grade of 4.0.

The exams will include questions concerning material covered in lecture and laboratory, and will emphasize problem-solving rather than remembering facts. Problem sets will not be graded, but some exam questions will be closely related to those in problem sets. Most exam questions will be in the short answer format. Makeup exams will not normally be approved without a pressing and documented reason, such as illness with a physician's note provided. All makeup exams will be oral exams.

Graded exams and lab reports will be placed in the course laboratory after grading for pick-up. If you wish to have an exam or lab report held and returned to you individually, send a written request to that effect to Kendall Gray. If you wish an exam question to be regraded, give the exam back to the professor or TA within one week of date the exam was taken with your written comments. The entire exam may be regraded. Lab write-ups turned in after the due date will be penalized, and will not be accepted after the corresponding graded lab write-ups have been returned to other students.
